Using an ASIC restricted word in company name

Some words and expressions are ‘restricted’ because their use in a business name could, for example, mislead consumers. Abbreviations of restricted words and expressions, or words and expressions that have the same or a similar meaning, are also restricted.

ASIC restricts words such as "Trustee" or "Bank" being used in Company names.

You can however, apply for approval from the relevant authority to use a restricted word in a Company name, and only once written approval is received, you can proceed with the registration.

These Company registrations applications must include a copy of APRA's written approval, and therefore the registration must be completed directly with ASIC, rather than via the NowInfinity platform.
